8 Ahrefs alternatives in 2026, ranked by the job you actually have

Most Ahrefs alternatives are full suites: Semrush, SE Ranking, Moz Pro. RankPulse is not one. It watches four Moz numbers on 3 domains for $9 a month.

I build RankPulse, the first tool on this list, so read its placement with suspicion and check my numbers. Every price here came off the vendor's public pricing page in August 2026, on monthly billing, ignoring the annual discount. Prices move and tiers get renamed, so each one links to the vendor's own page. Check it before you buy anything. Where a rival beats RankPulse I say so plainly, and for most people reading this, one of them does.

RankPulse watches 3 domains plus 2 competitors each and emails you when Moz's Domain Authority, Page Authority, Spam Score or backlink count changes. It is not an Ahrefs replacement and I will not pretend it is. If you came here for keyword research or rank tracking, scroll past this entry to Semrush and SE Ranking.

Strong: Daily checks at 06:00 UTC, and the email is event-driven, so a quiet inbox means nothing moved. The DA, PA and Spam Score are Moz's own figures pulled through RapidAPI, and Ahrefs reports none of the three. Free public checker at /check, 3 checks a day, no signup. At $9 you are watching 9 domains for under a tenth of Ahrefs Lite.

Limits: I run no link index of my own. I can tell you the count fell from 412 to 398, never which link died, which is the whole job if you do link recovery. No keyword research, no rank tracking, no site crawler, no API. Moz recomputes its index roughly every 3 to 5 weeks, so DA moves in steps rather than smoothly. One person builds and runs it.

2. Semrush [Closest full replacement]

Semrush is what most people actually want when they search for an Ahrefs alternative. Keyword research, rank tracking, a site crawler, a backlink index and content tools sit behind one login. For a working SEO with a real budget, this is the honest first answer on the page.

Strong: The keyword database is the deepest of any tool here, and the site audit produces a page-by-page fix list rather than a score. Position tracking updates daily. Around 50 tools means one subscription usually replaces three.

Limits: It is more expensive than the Ahrefs Lite plan at $129, so switching for price alone makes no sense. The SEO plan gives you one user and 5 projects; extra seats and .Trends bill on top. Its authority metric is Authority Score, not Moz DA, so it cannot answer a client who asks for DA.

3. SE Ranking [Best value suite]

SE Ranking is the rank tracker of this group. Daily positions across more search engines than anyone else here, with a competent backlink checker, keyword research and site audit alongside. If you are leaving Ahrefs because of the invoice, start here rather than with Semrush.

Strong: Rank tracking is daily and covers more engines and locations than Ahrefs bothers with. White-label reporting is included rather than an upsell, which is the whole argument if you invoice clients for it.

Limits: The backlink index is smaller than Ahrefs', so link prospecting turns up fewer referring domains for the same query. Keyword volumes are licensed rather than measured in house. It reports its own domain trust score, not Moz DA.

4. Moz Pro [The only source of DA]

Moz Pro is the origin of Domain Authority, Page Authority and Spam Score. Every other tool that shows you DA, RankPulse included, is reporting Moz's number. It also ships keyword research, rank tracking, Link Explorer and a site crawl, so it is a genuine suite and not a single-metric product.

Strong: If a client, a sponsor or a link marketplace asks for DA, this is the primary source. Spam Score has no equivalent in Ahrefs or Semrush. Starter at $49 undercuts every other full suite here except Ubersuggest.

Limits: The link index is generally accepted to be smaller than Ahrefs' or Majestic's, and the cheaper tiers meter your queries. Rank tracking updates less often than Semrush or SE Ranking. If all you want is those four numbers watched daily, $99 a month buys a lot of software you will never open.

5. Ubersuggest [Pay once, no subscription]

Ubersuggest sells a one-off licence rather than a subscription, covering keyword ideas, a rough backlink view and basic rank tracking. It suits a solo site owner who needs directional answers, not a defensible dataset. It pays for itself against Ahrefs Lite inside three months and then stops billing.

Strong: A one-off GBP 290 pays for itself against Ahrefs Lite in about three months and never bills again. The interface is simple enough to use once a month without relearning it. Nobody else here sells a lifetime licence.

Limits: Data depth is the trade you are making. Keyword volumes and link counts are directional, and I would not paste them into a client report without a second source. No Moz DA, and the site audit is thin next to Semrush's.

6. Majestic [Link data only]

Majestic has crawled the web for links since 2011 and does nothing else. Trust Flow and Citation Flow are its own metrics and are well understood in link building. Buy it if backlinks are the only reason you were paying Ahrefs.

Strong: The historic index goes back years, so you can see a profile as it was, not just as it is. Topical Trust Flow tells you what subject a linking site is actually about. At $49.99 it is $79 below Ahrefs Lite.

Limits: No keyword research, no rank tracking, no site audit, so it replaces perhaps a quarter of what Ahrefs does. The interface is dated and takes a week to get comfortable with. No Moz DA and no Spam Score.

7. Google Search Console [Best free option]

Search Console is real Google data about your own site, and no paid tool can match it on accuracy. You get the queries you ranked for, impressions, clicks, average position, and the links Google itself has recorded. If you own one site and read this page because $129 a month hurts, verify your domain and start here.

Strong: Free with no cap, and the query data comes from Google's own logs rather than a third-party model. Index coverage and Core Web Vitals reports catch technical problems before traffic drops.

Limits: Only sites you verify, so no competitor research at all. The link report is a sample and lags reality by days. No alerting when links disappear, and history stops at 16 months. No DA, no Spam Score, no keyword difficulty.

8. Monitor Backlinks [Link monitoring only]

Monitor Backlinks watches a link list and emails you when a link is removed, goes nofollow or changes anchor. It overlaps with what RankPulse does, except it works at the level of the individual link rather than the count. If your question is which link died, this answers it and RankPulse does not.

Strong: Named lost-link alerts by email, with the source URL and anchor text. Cheaper than any full suite here, and simpler to set up than Ahrefs alerts.

Limits: Link data is licensed rather than crawled in house, so discovery lags Ahrefs by days or weeks. No keyword research, no rank tracking, no DA or Spam Score. The product moves slowly, so check the current pricing page before you commit.

How I judged these

-Price came off each vendor's public pricing page in August 2026, on monthly billing. Annual plans are cheaper and I ignored that on purpose, because most people testing an alternative pay monthly first.
-Whose data you are actually buying. Ahrefs, Semrush and Majestic crawl their own index. Moz crawls its own and licenses DA out. RankPulse crawls nothing and reports Moz's four numbers.
-What the free tier does. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools, Search Console and the RankPulse /check page all give real answers for nothing, and I counted that against paid tiers.
-Whether the tool can name the lost link, not just the falling count. This is the single biggest dividing line on the list.
-Fit for one person versus a team. Seat pricing, project caps and white-label reporting change the real invoice more than the headline price does.

Can I get by with the free options and pay nothing?

Often yes, and I would rather you tried that before paying me. Google Search Console gives you real query and link data for every site you verify. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools adds a free site audit and a limited Site Explorer for your own domain. The free tools stop working when you need competitor data, historic trends or an alert when something moves.

RankPulse is one person with no index and no API. Why would I trust it with my monitoring?

Reasonable question, and the honest answer is that you should trust it only for the narrow job. It stores no proprietary data, so there is nothing to lose if I disappear: the DA, PA and Spam Score are Moz's figures and you can get them from Moz Pro tomorrow. Billing is monthly with no annual lock, so the most you can lose is $9. If you need a vendor with an SLA, a support team and an API, buy Ahrefs or Semrush and do not think about it again.

Which alternative actually reports Moz Domain Authority?

Moz Pro from $49 a month, and RankPulse at $9. Ahrefs reports DR, Semrush reports Authority Score, Majestic reports Trust Flow. Those are different models on different indexes and they do not convert into each other.

Will any of these tell me which backlink I lost?

Ahrefs, Semrush, Majestic and Monitor Backlinks will, with the source URL and anchor text. RankPulse will not. It sees the count go from 412 to 398 and emails you that the count fell, which is enough to start an investigation and not enough to finish one.

Does Domain Authority affect Google rankings?

No. DA is Moz's model, trained to predict rankings, and Google does not use it or see it. It is useful as a relative comparison between sites and as a currency in link deals and sponsorships. Anyone selling you DA as a ranking factor is wrong.
