Domain Authority is Moz's prediction of how well a domain will rank in Google, scored 1 to 100. Moz trains it against real search results using its own link index. The scale is logarithmic. Moving from 20 to 30 is ordinary work. Moving from 60 to 70 takes years.

Read it as a relative number. A DA of 35 means nothing until you check the sites already ranking for the keywords you want. If they sit between 30 and 40, links are not what's holding you back. If they sit at 70, no amount of on-page work closes that gap on its own.

DA follows referring domains more closely than raw link counts. One link from a relevant DA 50 site moves it more than fifty directory listings. So the useful action is boring. Earn links from real sites in your subject area, and check that the ones you already have are still there.

This check tells you today's number. It does not tell you what the number was in June, or that it fell 4 points three weeks ago. Moz recomputes its index roughly every 3 to 5 weeks, so the move lands on a day you probably were not looking.
