    8 Semrush alternatives in 2026, and the one job each of them fits

    The real Semrush alternatives are Ahrefs, SE Ranking and Moz Pro. RankPulse is not a suite. It only emails you when Moz DA, PA, spam score or links move.

    I build RankPulse, which is listed first here because it is mine, not because it beats the others. Prices were taken from each vendor's public pricing page in August 2026, on monthly billing rather than the discounted annual rate. Prices move and tiers get renamed, so each one links to the vendor's own page. Check it before you buy anything. Most people leaving Semrush should buy SE Ranking or Ahrefs, and I say that in the entries below.

    1. RankPulse [Monitoring only, not a Semrush replacement]

    $9/month flat, checked August 2026

    RankPulse watches 3 domains plus 2 competitors each and emails you when Moz's Domain Authority, Page Authority, Spam Score or backlink count changes. Semrush has around 50 tools and RankPulse has one job, so calling it a replacement would be dishonest. It fits people who kept paying Semrush $139 a month while opening only the authority numbers.

    Strong: Daily checks at 06:00 UTC, and email is event-driven, so no email means nothing moved. DA, PA and Spam Score are Moz's own figures, which Semrush does not report at all. $9 flat for 15 watched domains, with no seats, credits or annual lock. Free public checker at /check, 3 checks a day, no signup.

    Limits: No link index of my own, so I can say the count dropped from 412 to 398 but never which link went. No keyword research, no rank tracking, no site crawler, no API, no content tools. Moz refreshes its index roughly every 3 to 5 weeks, so DA changes arrive in steps. Built and supported by one person.

    2. Ahrefs [Best backlink data]

    Ahrefs is the like-for-like swap if link data is why you pay for a suite at all. Its crawler is second only to Google's in scale, and the lost backlinks report names the URL, the anchor and the date. Keyword research, rank tracking and site audit are all present and competitive.

    Strong: Lite at $129 is $10 under Semrush's SEO plan, so this is one of the rare swaps that is both cheaper and stronger in its core area. Ahrefs Webmaster Tools is free for verified sites and includes a full site audit. The $29 Starter tier gives casual users a real way in.

    Limits: Credits meter your usage, and heavy days run the balance down mid-month. Keyword research is a step behind Semrush in database size and intent data. It reports DR and UR, not Moz DA, so it cannot answer a client asking for DA.

    3. SE Ranking [Best value suite]

    SE Ranking covers the same ground as Semrush and beats it on rank tracking. Keyword research, site audit, backlink checking and white-label reports are all included. For most people leaving Semrush over price, this is the tool I would buy.

    Strong: The feature list is close enough to Semrush that the daily routine barely changes, and position tracking is more generous. Client reporting is white-labelled on the paid tiers, which agencies pay extra for elsewhere. Rank tracking is genuinely strong, not a token feature.

    Limits: The backlink index is smaller than Ahrefs' and Semrush's, so link prospecting surfaces fewer referring domains. Keyword volumes are licensed rather than measured in house. Its authority metric is its own, not Moz DA.

    4. Moz Pro [Source of DA and Spam Score]

    Moz Pro invented Domain Authority, Page Authority and Spam Score, and it is still the only place they are computed. Alongside those it ships Link Explorer, keyword research, rank tracking and a site crawl. It is a full suite, priced between Ubersuggest and SE Ranking.

    Strong: Starter at $49 is around a third of Semrush's SEO plan. Spam Score has no equivalent in Semrush or Ahrefs, and DA is still the number link marketplaces and sponsors ask for. The keyword tool is solid for a site with a few hundred target terms.

    Limits: The link index is smaller than Ahrefs' or Majestic's, and query limits bite on the cheaper tiers. Rank tracking refreshes less often than SE Ranking's. If you only want the four authority numbers checked daily, $99 a month is heavy for the job.

    5. Ubersuggest [Pay once, no subscription]

    Ubersuggest is the one tool here you buy outright rather than rent, covering keyword ideas, basic rank tracking and a rough link view. It fits a solo site owner who checks SEO once or twice a month. The GBP 290 lifetime licence costs about two months of Semrush's SEO plan.

    Strong: A one-off GBP 290 costs about two months of Semrush's SEO plan and then stops. Nobody else here sells a lifetime licence. Simple enough to use occasionally without relearning the interface.

    Limits: The data is directional. Keyword volumes and backlink counts are close enough for personal decisions and not close enough for a client deliverable. No Moz DA, and the audit and reporting are thin compared with SE Ranking.

    6. Majestic [Links only, deep history]

    Lite $49.99/month, Pro $99.99, checked August 2026 · check current price

    Majestic has done one thing since 2011, which is crawl links. Trust Flow, Citation Flow and Topical Trust Flow are its own metrics and are widely quoted in link building. Buy it if links were the only Semrush report you opened.

    Strong: The historic index lets you inspect a profile as it looked years ago, which nothing else here does as well. Topical Trust Flow shows what subject a linking site actually covers. $49.99 is around a third of Semrush's SEO plan.

    Limits: No keyword research, no rank tracking, no site audit and no content tools, so it replaces about a fifth of Semrush. The interface is dated and the learning curve is real. No Moz DA or Spam Score.

    7. Google Search Console [Best free option]

    Search Console is Google reporting on your own site, so on your own queries it is more accurate than any paid tool. You get impressions, clicks, average position, index coverage and the links Google has recorded. If the reason you are reading this is the $139 invoice, verify your domain before you buy anything.

    Strong: Free, uncapped, and sourced from Google's own logs rather than a model. Index coverage and Core Web Vitals catch technical failures early. Pairs well with a cheap monitor, since it tells you nothing about competitors and a monitor tells you nothing about queries.

    Limits: Verified sites only, so competitor research is impossible. Link data is sampled and lags by days. History stops at 16 months, there is no alerting on lost links, and there is no DA, Spam Score or keyword difficulty.

    8. Monitor Backlinks [Named lost-link alerts]

    Monitor Backlinks tracks a list of links and emails you when one is removed, turns nofollow or changes anchor text. It answers the question RankPulse cannot, which is which link you lost. Treat it as a narrow monitoring tool rather than a Semrush substitute.

    Strong: Lost-link emails name the source URL and the anchor, so you can go and ask for the link back the same day. Cheaper than every full suite here and quicker to configure than Semrush alerts.

    Limits: Its link data is licensed rather than crawled in house, so new links appear later than in Ahrefs. No keyword research, no rank tracking, no crawler, no DA or Spam Score. Development is slow, so confirm the current price and feature list before subscribing.

    How I judged these

    • -Prices are the public monthly rates from each vendor's pricing page in August 2026. Annual billing is cheaper everywhere and I ignored it, because a tool you are trialling should be paid monthly.
    • -How much of Semrush each tool actually replaces. Majestic covers roughly one report, SE Ranking covers most of the suite, RankPulse covers one number set.
    • -Whose index and whose metrics. DA and Spam Score come only from Moz. DR comes only from Ahrefs. Authority Score comes only from Semrush. None of them convert.
    • -What you get for free. Search Console, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools and the RankPulse /check page each answer real questions at no cost, and that counts against a paid tier.
    • -The real invoice for your setup, including seats, project caps and white-label reporting, rather than the headline price of tier one.

    What is the cheapest tool that does most of what Semrush does?

    SE Ranking Core at GBP 95 a month, checked August 2026, which lands a little under Semrush's SEO plan. It covers rank tracking, keyword research, site audit and backlinks. The gap you will feel is backlink discovery, where Ahrefs and Semrush both index more.

    Is it worth keeping the free tools instead of paying anyone?

    For a single site with no clients, often yes. Google Search Console gives you real query and link data, Ahrefs Webmaster Tools gives you a free site audit, and the RankPulse checker at /check gives you 3 DA and Spam Score lookups a day without signing up. Free stops being enough when you need competitor data, saved history or an alert when a number moves.

    Why would I pay a one-person shop like RankPulse instead of a company with a support team?

    For most jobs you should not, and I would point you at SE Ranking or Ahrefs. The narrow case is monitoring, where the software is small enough that one person can run it properly. There is no annual contract, no data lock-in, and the metrics are Moz's, so switching to Moz Pro costs you nothing but the setup time. If procurement needs an SLA and an API, RankPulse fails that test on both counts.

    Which of these gives me Moz Domain Authority?

    Moz Pro from $49 a month, and RankPulse at $9. Semrush reports Authority Score, Ahrefs reports DR, Majestic reports Trust Flow. Those are separate models on separate indexes, so a DR 40 is not a DA 40.

    Can any of these tell me which backlink disappeared?

    Ahrefs, Semrush, Majestic and Monitor Backlinks can, with source URL and anchor text. RankPulse cannot, because it has no index of its own. It sees the count move from 412 to 398 and emails you the drop, which starts the investigation but does not finish it.

    How often does Moz Domain Authority actually change?

    Moz recomputes its index roughly every 3 to 5 weeks. Between refreshes your DA will usually sit still, so daily monitoring is about catching the step when it lands, not watching a smooth line. Anyone promising daily DA movement is describing something Moz does not publish.
